What is the best Business Model?


There are number of arguments about the best organizational models. There is no perfect business model in the world. All the models have advantages as well as disadvantages. The right business model depends on the form of your businesses. The purpose of this article is to discuss the most suitable business model with more realistic examples


Organization is formed to reach a specific goal which is most of the time is pre defined. All the employees are working towards to achieve that goal. The matter is how they are going to achieve it. In this process the most important thing is to set employee expectations. Not all the employees can manage the staff and therefore each employee should be set with clear expectations. Then only they are aware of what is expected from them.


In this basis if you consider the most successful organization I would say it is the security forces. It is a fact that the structure of the Army (of course and other security forces), has not been changed much for years. That is because the way the organization works is the best way to handle people to achieve a specific goal. Now lets discuss supporting facts one by one


1. Expectations are clearly set


Setting the expectations are one of the most important and the hardest task of a company. As mentioned above set of people are working towards to achieve a goal and each person has to contribute. The contribution required from each employee should be pre identified and should be communicated.


You must have heard so many cases where employees are screaming that they were not given the promotions and increments though the management says all of them are entirely performance based. This is mainly because employees are not clearly aware what is expected from them.


However this is not the case when it comes to Forces. Each person is clearly communicated with the expectations and everyone is aware of what is required out of them. This is one of the advantages you have with a well established organizational hierarchy.


2. Reporting structured


Always there is a way to do everything. If something should be reported it should go in a proper reporting structure which most of the time leads to solve the problems in the bottom level of the organization. This does not meet that there is no grievance handling mechanism and there is always room for such areas.


3. Rewarding policy is crystal clear


Most of the cases financial packages are competitive in the forcers. It is not just the salary you get but it accounts all other benefits and allowances. Everyone is aware about the salary they are entitled. The salary structure is associated with the hierarchy and therefore it has led to reduce the most of the confusions. More importantly this keeps people happy because everybody is aware of what is entitled for them.


4. What is required to climb up the ladder


It is very simple. If you are a normal soldier and wanted to become an officer then the requirements are clearly defined. It is may be a educational qualifications and once you fulfils that requirement then you are also eligible. If is an business organization then the exact requirements to climb up the ladder, are not transparent. Not all the hard workers are promoted due to either lack of awareness about the expectations or due some other internal reasons. In any means forces always maintain this transparency. It is obvious that there are some counter augments but what I am trying tell is that forcers have a better way of doing things.


Now lets see whether the same approach can be applicable for other industries such as IT, hotels and manufacturing organizations. It is agreed that this model is applicable for the organizations that are more likely blue collar companies. However the way things are handled can be referred in other types of organizations not in the same manner but in the same concepts. The most important aspects is to maintain processes and procedures so that everybody is clear and happy.
