Why We Are Poor?

"The "developing" part of "developing country" may be considered euphemistic or perhaps optimistic, as many of the poorest countries are hardly developing at all." from wiki
Do you agree with the above statement? In my case I would certainly agree with that statement as following factors witness that....

  •  How many times have you heard that we are a developing country? Ask from your parents because probably they also have heard of this throughout their lives.  But still we are considered as a developing country
  • Have you ever heard that any of the Asian country step up to to the developed category? of course Singapore is a good example but I am thinking of other countries.  If you name Korea\Thailand and Malaysia then I would say they have critical social economic issues.  They are severely suffering from post development issues like youth unemployment, prostitution, illegal incomes and more importantly quality of life.
Therefore the correct term is that we are the countries where the development is stopped! This is not to say that our living conditions are horrible but what I need to point out is there will not be any change the way we thinking.

What I feel is that we need to take the People's attitude in to the account of the development.  Because if you take the road structure of Sri Lanka I agree that we have a lot to developed.  But it should not prevent us from having developed disciplines.  In some roads its obvious that drivers cannot flow the rules properly.  The problem is people do not follow rules even in good roads.  That's what do you call disciplines and ethics.  In some areas we have very good road structure where drivers can follow lanes with no issues.  But when you go by those roads you feel where we are.  That is the main reason why we are behind.  No one respects the person who is in-front of you.  This is what we can improve.

What I feel that Sri Lanka has a great potential to be a developed country.  Only what matters is the way we think.  Lets be disciplined by ourselves so that others will follow us SOMEDAY.  The day we become disciplined will become the day we become developed.
